Hello Everyone. Good to share info with you all and support also.

Hello everybody,

My son is 10-1/2 and has multiple tics. He has had motor tics since the age of 7 and vocal tics since he was 9. He has "high tic days" and "low tic days". He has many different types of tics. Many of them are "leg tics" involving jumping, lots of stomping, walking funny, skipping, hopping. He also has a lot of vocal tics, especially after eating. It seems to increase his energy level and cause tics. Since he is such an active, athletic kid, you never really notice. He has been able to cope well so far at school and nobody really notices. My fear is that things will get worse and he won't always cope so well. It is hard to not worry yourself sick. We have eliminated most sugar, all artificial dyes and colorings (red #40 is a real trigger) and anything too processed. He is very involved in soccer and track and exercise really helps him channel his energy. Lots of exercise increases his body teperature, though, and can cause tics too (words spoken in a guttural voice).
I am glad to have found this website and am looking forward to sharing info with everybody.
Our children are challenged by this syndrome but they are not defined by it and we have to find outlets for them where they excel. My son is a gifted little athlete and he amazes me by his sense of humor and grace. There are days where I am parlayzed by fear of the future but I have to remain positive for him.
